Schelde Naval Shipbuilding has experience in shipbuilding since 1875. Over the years more than 400 ships have been delivered to the Dutch Government and private owners. The parent company Royal Schelde is since the year 2000 a member of the Damen Shipyards Group. After first expanding to an industrial conglomerate it changed the direction to the core business again as a prominent designer and builder of naval and commercial ships. As contractor to the Royal Netherlands Navy, Schelde Naval Shipbuilding has been performing scientific research for years into new techniques to reduce the vulnerability of warships for impact, explosion and fire, consequently increasing the impact resistance.
