About CTH
At Chalmers’ Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering there are four professors, two in hydrodynamics and two in structures. Basic education is given to MSc-level only. Presently around twenty students are educated each year. There are about 12 positions for research students aiming at PhD (depending on external funding). Main research areas are the development and verification of Navier-Stokes solver in computational fluid dynamics, cavitation of propellers, systems engineering applied to ship design and ship structures, design for environment (DFE), the dynamics and strength of lightweight ship structures, fatigue of welded structures, corrosion control, and maintenance research. Co-operation with the research and development institute SSPA and SP in Boras is part of our environment. The department is involved in several European projects.
