About KMY
(Kvaerner Masa-Yards) 1.1.2005 Aker Finnyards is a private company with its main activity in shipbuilding. The company has two newbuilding yards in Finland, Helsinki and Turku. Both yards have design competence for all design stages and disciplines from contract to delivery. To support the core business, the company has a factory for prefabricated cabin and bathroom modules (Piikiö Works), an Arctic Research Centre and laboratory, (MARC), a business unit for Technical Consulting services, and minor branch offices in USA, Canada and Russia. Total number of employees is ca 3500..
The main newbuilding ship types are: Passenger cruise vessels, Passenger Ro-Ro ferries, LNG carriers, Arctic and technical fleet ships, e.g. cable ships, icebreakers. Building of passenger ships has been and will remain one of the core business areas. In the last 10-year period, 22 passenger ships (15 prototypes) have been designed, built and delivered.
